Coming to the Vet with a Precious New Pet
Bringing your puppy or kitten in for their first veterinary visit is an important milestone. During the initial appointment, we will conduct a thorough, full-body exam to check your pet’s overall health. This includes assessing their weight and checking their heart, lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, and more. Depending on your puppy or kitten’s age, this visit may also include deworming, vaccinations, microchipping, and diagnostics such as fecal exams to check for parasites.
We’ll also take the time to answer any questions you may have about caring for your new pet, including advice on nutrition, dental care, behavior, and training. We understand that raising a puppy or kitten can feel overwhelming, so our team is here to support you with expert guidance on how to best care for your new companion.

FAQS for Puppies and Kittens
How soon should I bring my puppy or kitten in for their first vet visit?
We recommend scheduling your puppy or kitten’s first veterinary appointment as soon as possible after bringing them home. Ideally, this should be within the first week to establish their health.
What should I bring to my pet’s first appointment?
If you have any records from a breeder or place of adoption, such as previous vaccinations or deworming history, please bring those along. A recent stool sample will also be helpful for internal parasite testing.
When is the right age to spay or neuter my puppy or kitten?
Our veterinarians typically recommend spaying and neutering around six months of age. However, we may suggest closer to one year for large breed dogs and certain other pets. Read more on the benefits on our Spay and Neuter page.
I missed my pet’s vaccine booster appointment. Now what?
Puppies and kittens typically receive their first vaccines around 6 to 8 weeks of age, followed by boosters every few weeks. If a booster appointment is missed or delayed, waiting too long can mean that the entire vaccine series will need to be restarted. To avoid this, we recommend rescheduling as soon as possible if a booster is missed.
